Wiles Mensch's very own Joe Mensch was honored with an Award of Merit from Design Arlington Award Program for his assistance with site design services for the George Mason University Founders Hall project.

Yesterday's ground breaking ceremony was the first stage of the three year construction of GW's new science and engineering building located on Square 55. Wiles Mensch is providing civil engineering services for this 480,000 sq ft eight-story building with two levels of below-grade parking. The building will consist of 290,000 sq ft of learning space for teaching and research laboratories. Follow the link to read the full article published by DCmud.

Three Constitution Square is part of the seven building Constitution Square development where Wiles Mensch is providing civil engineering, surveying, landscape and paving design servies on the design team. Wiles Mensch's CityMarket at O project was mentioned today in Bisnow's Real Estate DC issue. Groundbreaking is set to begin for the highly anticipated mixed-use development that will include the largest supermarket in the District. Wiles Mensch is honored to be Civil Engineer on the design team for this project!

WMC’s high profile Casey Trees Headquarters project was mentioned in September’s CE News issue. Casey Trees is a Washington, DC-based non-profit established in 2001 committing themselves to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the Nation's Capital.
Their new site for their headquarters houses a 4,000 sq ft facility that was expanded with an additional 4,500 sq ft. Various earth friendly techniques were incorporated into the design of the site including a rain garden, streetside bioretention planter, cistern, and a green roof. To find out more

WMC's The Avenue - Square 54 project was mentioned in yesterday's Bisnow Real Estate DC e-blast. The Avenue is 1.5M sq ft and is located at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW adjacent to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro and is the "front door" to both GW's Foggy Bottom campus and the Foggy Bottom and West End neighborhoods. We enjoyed working with everyone at Boston Properties and await the next venture together!

WMC’s high profile Capitol Plaza project was mentioned in Monday’s Bisnow Real Estate e-blast. Capitol Plaza is a large scale office development, totaling 1.6M sq ft, which was designed in three phases and included a 292,000 sq ft Class-A building that was highlighted in Bisnow’s article. WMC was fortunate enough to provide civil engineering, landscape architecture, and permitting services.

WMC’s high profile Washington Gateway project was mentioned in Monday’s Bisnow Real Estate e-blast. Washington Gateway will be located at the highly visible intersection of New York Avenue and Florida Avenue, NE, in Washington, DC, Washington Gateway is a $370 million mixed-use development that will serve as the northern anchor to the city’s NoMa district. WMC is providing civil engineering and survey services for the design and development for both the office and residential portions of this project.

Construction has officially begun for Wiles Mensch’s 480,000 sq ft GWU Science and Engineering Complex project. Pre-construction services have occurred for the last month but now that students have vacated the premises construction will occur until January 2015.

Two high profile WMC projects were recognized in this week's Washington Business Journal. Constitution Square is a 2.5 M sq ft mixed-use development located in the up and coming NoMA District. This site is being developed in two phases and once complete will contain residential, office, and retail space. In addition, WMC project Square 54 – The Avenue was referenced in the latest Washington Business Journal issue. The Avenue is located at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW adjacent to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro at the "front door" to both GW's Foggy Bottom campus and the Foggy Bottom and West End neighborhoods. The site presents a key transit-oriented development location and an opportunity to create a dynamic urban "town center" with retail, residential, and office uses that would achieve shared benefits for the Community, the District, and the University. WMC was recognized as Civil Engineer of United States Institute of Peace’s new headquarters in the Spring 2011 issue of Architecture DC. The article discusses the design of the new headquarters located on a two acre parcel on The National Mall. The five-story 150,000 sq ft was designed by renowned architect Moshe Sadie and WMC was honored to provide full civil engineering and surveying services for this project.

WMC was recognized as Civil Engineer of Arena Stage in the Spring 2011 issue of Architecture DC. The cover article discusses the revitalization of the theatre in the Southwest district. The theatre was designed by Canadian architect Bing Thom and WMC was thrilled to provide full civil engineering, streetscape design, and surveying services for this project.

WMC’s high profile 1100 First Street project was mentioned in Friday’s Bisnow Real Estate e-blast. Located in an emerging NoMA District of Washington, DC, 1100 First Street offers 347,608 sf of Class A office space. A truly unique design blends efficiency, beauty, and comfort all while achieving Gold LEED certification, the first in the NoMA district to be rated at that level. WMC provided surveying and full civil engineering services and implemented innovative stormwater management techniques utilizing sand filters and French drains.

WMC was recognized as Civil Engineer of the American Pharmacists Association Headquarters in the Winter 2010 issue of Architecture DC. The article discusses the expansion and restoration that is 20 times the size of the original 1934 building which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site is also located adjacent to another WMC project, US Institute of Peace. American Pharmacists Association Headquarters project was lead by Hartman Cox Architects and WMC was honored to be part of the team and provide surveying and civil engineering services.

There is an upcoming event at UDC titled Water, Trees and Gardens in the DC Area, which is part of UDC’s Fall 2010 Weekly Seminar. One of the panelists will be WMC’s very own Marcelo Lopez who has worked on over 75 projects in Washington, DC. The event starts at 4 PM on November 18th with a reception and refreshments at 5:30 PM. WMC’s high profile National Mall project was mentioned in yesterday’s Bisnow Real Estate e-blast. With 3,000 special events per year on the Mall, keeping trees and turf alive and healthy is a daunting challenge. This project is part of a multi-year effort aimed at improving the health and sustainability of the National Mall. The project site limits of the National Mall are from 1st to 14th Streets and from Madison to Jefferson Drives. WMC is providing an extensive range of surveying and civil engineering services in support of the design of the turf and soil to improve the conditions at the National Mall.

WMC was recognized as Civil Engineer of the Census Bureau Headquarters in the Fall 2010 issue of Architecture DC. The cover project along with the 4-page spread discusses the successful design of the “office in the forest”. The 1.5 M gsf of space headquarters is located in Suitland, Maryland at maintains a staff of 4,500 and swells to 6,000 during a census year. WMC was honored to provide civil engineering services for this innovatively designed project.

Bisnow recognized the eight award recipients of the 2010 Professional Women in Construction-DC Women of Achievement Awards in their Real Estate e-blast yesterday. WMC President Mary Ramsey along with the seven other recipients was presented with their awards last Wednesday the 20th where Mary Ramsey was honored with the Woman Owned Business Leader Award.

Mid-Atlantic Construction’s Best of 2010 awards program has announced Arena Stage Renovation and Expansion as the Overall Project of the Year and Cultural Project of the Year. Projects were awarded based on 20 different construction type categories. Additional WMC projects awarded include Constitution Square for Green Building Project of the Year and Green Building Award of Merit, American Pharmacists Association Headquarters for Renovation/Restoration Project of the Year, and Constitution Center for Interior Design/Tenant Improvement Project of the Year.

As one of WMC’s newly completed projects we are very excited about this opportunity for the public to tour the facility. This year DCBIA is asking volunteers to help with cleaning up Metropolitan Branch Trail located in Ward 5 of DC. WMC was happy to volunteer our design services in effort to support DCBIA’s 18th Annual Community Improvement Day. WMC provided DCBIA with sediment and erosion control plans for this undeveloped site. Don’t forget to join DCBIA on Saturday October 2nd from 7 AM to 5 PM.

WMC is ecstatic to announce that with the addition of Vincent Costanzi WMC now employs TWO Registered Surveyors, a feat that is difficult to accomplish this industry. Our registered surveyors have over 50 years of combined experience in Washington, DC. Registered surveyors can perform boundary and location surveys; and wall examinations permitted by DC Office of the Surveyor. Registered surveyors act as an agent for the Office of the DC Surveyor in the performance of the duties and provide the most accurate boundary survey.

There has been a buzz going around town for quite some time from Washingtonians about the October 23rd grand opening of Arena Stage in Southwest DC. That buzz can now be confirmed as a roar which is evident from the 4 articles published in the Art and Style section of this past Sunday’s Washington Post. The articles discuss the review of the building itself as well as the architect, region, and detailed exploration of the building. These articles outweigh the majority of the section with 10 of the 15 pages covering the $135 million remodel where WMC had a great opportunity to provide full civil engineering and survey services.

WMC was mentioned in the September Issue of Landscape Architecture magazine for its work on the Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC). NAVCC is a facility that stores the nation’s sensitive and irreplaceable recordings and films. WMC had the pleasure to provide civil engineering services for this 40 acre site in Culpeper, Virginia. The newly constructed $185 million United States Institute of Peace building was open to the press September 15th. WMC was honored with the opportunity to provide civil engineering and surveying services for this 150,000 square foot facility. As BISNOW reported in their September 16th Real Estate e-blast this facility is located on the last site on the National Mall that was available for construction and is slated to be completed shortly. The Institute is an independent Federal agency that promotes conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction. The facility is scheduled to be open to the public in 2011.

Today marks the 60th anniversary of Arena Stage at Mead Center for American Theatre more commonly known as Arena Stage. As Civil Engineer and Surveyor for the $135 million renovation WMC congratulates founders Zelda and Tom Fichandler for making Arena Stage a major national center for the production and study of American theatre. WMC receives their MBE/DBE certification with Maryland Department of Transportation. With this new certification, WMC has completed all regional MBE/DBE/WBE certifications for work in the entire Metropolitan Washington DC Region.
