The George Washington University - Museum
Washington, DC
WMC is providing full civil engineering services as part of the architectural and engineering team for the design of a four story approximately 25,000 sq ft museum on its Foggy Bottom Campus. The site is located at the corner of 21st and G Streets, NW in the heart of The George Washington University’s Foggy Bottom Campus. The site has a historic structure which is to remain on the site and be renovated.
Newseum
Washington, DC
WMC was involved in the design and development of the complex to include the Newseum, the Freedom Forum’s headquarters and international conference center, restaurant and retail facilities, and approximately 126 housing units, located on 6th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in the District of Columbia, and between the U.S. Capitol and the White House. WMC provided design services for the demolition permit phase of this project as well as oversight for site plan design documents which were completed in accordance with the requirements of the District of Columbia for site plan approval. Streetscape design services were provided on Pennsylvania Avenue, C Street and 6th Street and involved several meetings with DC Public Space Committee and attending hearings for reviews on streetscape design and follow-up with DDOT.
National Museum of the American Indian
Washington, DC
WMC participated in the development of this new 250,000 sq ft museum which was constructed on the last major unbuilt site on the National Mall, the heart of monumental Washington. WMC was responsible for site planning and layout, utility design, stormwater management and the redesign of Maryland Avenue.
Dumbarton Oaks
Washington, DC
WMC participated in the construction of this project involving the improvement of the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, a privately owned research institution and historic property located on approximately 16 acres of land in Georgetown in the District of Columbia. WMC provided civil engineering design services for each of the 6 projects that make up the Dumbarton Oaks Capital Construction and Renewal Program. WMC provided civil engineering services to improve the maintenance facilities for the Gardener’s Court maintenance area measuring 12,090 sq ft and to include a new central utility plant for the property as well as new buildings and service areas for materials, loading, and offices.
National Building Museum
Washington, DC
The National Building Museum is America’s premier cultural institution dedicated to exploring and celebrating architecture, design, engineering, construction, and urban planning. WMC was involved in the redevelopment of the site and provided extensive coordination with the Architect to review every detail of the grading, paving, drainage system, landscape planting and site furniture to ensure aesthetically correct conditions throughout the areas surrounding the historic building.
National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden
Washington, DC
WMC designed improvements to the quality of the proposed sculpture garden by renovating the skating rink and pavilion, and to provide an enhanced pedestrian plaza environment with connections to the National Art Gallery. The project incorporated a complete renovation of the existing ice rink and fountain facilities into a comprehensive, museum grade outdoor site for the exhibition of sculptures.
National Museum of American History
Washington, DC
The National Museum of American History underwent an $85 million renovation in September 2006, at which time it was closed to the public. The Museum reopened to the public in November 2008. WMC provided engineering services, including existing conditions reports, concept design, and schematic design for the renovations.
