NoMA Redevelopment

After a very expeditious planning effort that included extensive input from residents, business owners and other stakeholders in the NoMa area, WMC provided the design assistance for the DC Office of Planning to present the NoMa Vision Plan and Development Strategy to the DC Council for approval. The design approach for the plan was to facilitate the creation of a walkable, transit-accessible, dynamic, and diverse neighborhood with a mix of uses.
WMC worked closely with District agencies, NoMa Business Improvement District, and private property owners to upgrade the area’s infrastructure. WMC’s efforts include salient features such as public art installations, streetscape and landscape design, low impact development principles and improved pedestrian and bicycle access. WMC provided NoMa developers with cutting edge designs that will create unique elements, including water features, plantings, rain gardens and other stormwater retention practices.
CityMarket at O
Washington, DC
WMC is participating in the design of this two-block, mixed-use project. This project is designed to include 600+ residential units, hotel, 500-space parking garage and 88,000 sq ft of retail space which includes 57,000 sq ft of space set-aside for a major grocery store, making it one of the largest grocery stores in the area. The 57,000 sq ft grocery store include 13,000 sq ft dedicated to underground space.
WMC’s civil engineering scope of services includes site design, stormwater management, traffic siginal modification, and traffic control plans for this development. In addition, WMC is providing ESIF coordination services. This mixed-use project is being design to meet LEED Gold standards.
Half Street Development
Washington, DC
WMC is part of the design team for this multi-building development that has residential, office, retail , and parking components. The office building will have nine floors with 417,000 sq ft of space, residential building will have 11 floors and have 300,000 sq ft of space, ground level retail with 53,000 sq ft of space, and a three level below grade parking garage with 275,000 sq ft of space. This highly anticipated project is being developed in the newly revamped area of southwest Washington, DC. The development is idealy located adjacent to the Nationals baseball stadium.
The Avenue
Washington, DC
The Avenue is located at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW adjacent to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro at the "front door" to both George Washington University's Foggy Bottom campus and the Foggy Bottom and West End neighborhoods. The site presents a key transit-oriented development location and an opportunity to create a dynamic urban "town center" with retail, residential, and office uses that would achieve shared benefits for the Community, the District, and the University. The development includes 330,000 sq ft of residential space, 440,000 sq ft of office space, 85,000 sq ft of retail space, and 465,000 sq ft of parking space.
Union Row
Washington, DC
WMC provided civil engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture services for this Planned Unit Development project. The objective of the project was to redevelop Square 235 bounded by 13th, 14th, V and W Streets in the North Western sector of the District of Columbia. The site was redeveloped to incorporate 289,000 sq ft of residential condominiums, 24,000 sq ft of retail space, and 3 levels of below grade parking. Two warehouses straddling the new building (208 condominiums) were renovated to include 59 condominiums to feature a total of 267 condominiums, modern streetscape with retail shops, cafes, and a residential courtyard.
Federal Center
Washington, DC
The Federal Center project encompasses a public-private partnership spanning 42 acres, 1.8 million sq ft of office space, 2,800 residential units, 350,000 sq ft of retail, and a 5.87-acre riverfront park. WMC was an integral member in the development of the 401 3rd Street component of the project, providing a full scope of civil engineering design services. Specific tasks included design for water and sanitary sewer, stormwater management, grading, streetscape and streetlight design.
Washington Gateway
Washington, DC
Located at the highly visible intersection of New York Avenue and Florida Avenue, NE, in Washington, DC, Washington Gateway is a $370-million mixed-use development that will serve as the northern anchor to the city’s NoMa district. WMC is providing civil engineering and survey services for the design and development for both the office and residential portions of this project. This included stormwater management design with calculations for LEED certification. WMC provided a plan and profile design for relocation and construction of approximately 500 linear feet of a new 12” water main along Florida Avenue.
Constitution Square
Washington, DC
Constitution Square (Square 711), located at First and M Streets in Washington, DC, is a mixed-unit building envisioned to include office buildings and residential buildings along with associated garages. WMC is providing complete civil engineering and surveying services to include topographic, boundary, and utility surveys; planning services; greenroof design, and site civil engineering services. All site plans will be completed in accordance to the requirements of the District of Columbia for site plan approval.
Mount Vernon Village Center
Alexandria, VA
WMC is providing civil engineering and surveying services for this proposed 600,000 sq ft residential building with retail space on the ground floor. The project will be constructed in two phases; the east side of the site will be developed in the first phase and the west side of the site will be developed in the second phase.
