Military Projects
Marine Corps Information Operations Center (MCIOC)
Quantico, VA
WMC participated in the design of a new Marine Corps Information Operations Center (MCIOC) and a Marine Corps Network and Operations Security Center (MCNOSC) on Quantico Marine Corps Base. Services included civil engineering, site assessment, topographical survey, site utilities, environmental and wetlands assessment, stormwater management, landscape architecture, and lighting design.
PAX River Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation Hangar
Patuxent River, MD
This project includes the design and construction of a Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation Hangar (RDT&E) complex and associated administrative, support, and maintenance facilities. As part of the design team, WMC was tasked with preparing the site civil construction documents for the RFP for a Design-Build construction contract. The scope included performing a topographic survey on approximately 30 acres of NAS Patuxent River, and preliminary engineering for a site consisting of a 65,148 sq ft hanger/office building, 71,500 sq ft concrete aircraft parking apron, 106,000 sq ft taxiway, a 150-space parking lot, and related utilities and stormwater management infrastructure.
The Pentagon
Arlington, Virginia
The Pentagon serves as the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense and is located in Arlington County, Virginia. The Pentagon is the world's largest office building by floor area, with approximately 6.5 M sq ft including 3.7 M sq ft that are used as offices. WMC is fortunate to have worked on various projects at The Pentagon which includes the renovation of Wedges 2-5 and Library and Conference Center (PLC2).
NAVFAC Washington IDIQ
Mid-Atlantic Region
Through support engineering contracts, WMC prepared contract documentation, including the Request for Proposal and Bridging Documents for the design-build contracts supporting NAVFAC construction projects.
In addition to providing civil engineering services, WMC performed land surveying and permitting services for a number of projects throughout the Washington, DC area, including Marine Corps Base Quantico – Marine Corps Information Operation Center/Marine Corp Network Operation Center, Marine Corps Base Quantico – Harry Lee Hall, Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Training & Evaluation Hanger, and Marine Corps Base Quantico – Marine Corps Battalion Training Facility.
Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) and Mess Hall
Sugar Grove, West Virginia
WMC was responsible for the design of a 47,500 sq ft Bachelor Quarters and Mess Hall sited on 5 acres. The project consisted of a 3-story dormitory designed to tri-service standards, containing 53 living modules to house 106 sailors.
The structural system was load-bearing masonry with precast, pre-stressed concrete plank floors. The exterior is brick veneer on CMU backup and curtain wall at the main entrance, with aluminum double hung windows, preformed metal standing seam roofing over OSB board rigid roof insulation and metal decking with metal skylights and roof dormers; all supported by open web joists or light gauge metal roof framing. Interior finishes, kitchen equipment, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and incidental related work were all part of the scope of services for this project.
The Sugar Grove BEQ facility was designed utilizing a fast-track design and construction process. This process coupled with the management approach yielded an early finish on the BEQ at Sugar Grove.
DC Marine Barracks
Washington, DC
WMC participated in this Design/Build project which involved site design, landscape and construction services for a 5-story 95,000 sq ft bachelor enlisted quarters, a 3-story 52,200 sq ft marine band support facility, an athletic field facility, and parking garage. The site located at the northwest corner of 7th and L Streets SE, in the District of Columbia was previously occupied by three 1960’s era 6-story housing blocks, which were demolished to pave way for the development.
WMC also provided assistance with the necessary permits required including stormwater management, sediment erosion control, water and sewer availability slip, and Public Space Permits.
Walter Reed Amputee Facility
Washington, DC
WMC participated in this Design-Build project involving the construction of the Military Amputee Training Center (MATC) as an addition to the existing Building 2 (the WRAMC Hospital), on the campus of Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington, DC. WMC provided complete civil engineering services including a stormwater management concept plan quality and quantity control, as well as field survey of existing conditions. The design adhered to the requirements of MIL-HDBK-1191, the Uniform Federal Accessibility Act Standards/Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Standards. The project was fast tracked and required coordination with District of Columbia permit agencies in an extremely tight schedule to complete the design and permit packages. WMC provided construction administration services as well.
