Landscape Architecture Services
WMC offers a standalone landscape architectural design studio that can perform a full range of services from concept development through construction administration. The studio focuses on the design of public space, streetscapes, public parks, athletic facilities, green roofs (intensive and extensive), and the integration of LID design strategies into the urban built environment. The studios designs are driven by form, function, public interaction and a drive to promote natural processes in the landscape. All elements within the design, hardscape or softscape and locations at grade or on structure are viewed as important components of how the final landscape functions and are perceived by the user. WMC’s Landscape Architects believe this can only be attained by great collaborations with architects, engineers, community members and other design professionals.
WMC’s Landscape Architecture team are licensed, LEED Accredited Professionals with over 15 years of experience working in the DC market. Our staff has experience leading multi-disciplined design teams to complete successful significant, and award winning projects. The staffs can complete customized designs to assist with the marketing of an idea and allowing clients to attain the appropriate approvals from required agencies.

Mount Vernon Village Center
Washington, DC
WMC is providing landscape architectural, civil engineering and surveying services for this proposed 600,000 sq ft mixed use development. The project will be constructed in two phases; the east side of the site will be developed in the first phase and the west side of the site will be developed in the second phase.
The residential component of this project consists of 5 levels of residential space with a rooftop pool and community garden terrace. WMC landscape architecture worked to develop an acceptable City of Alexandria streetscape that adheres to the Arlandria Small Area Plan. This required great collaboration as existing condtions made this a challenge. Coordination was also completed with the City to integrate the development with the existing 4 Mile Run Park to ensure access and safety for the community. The design for the entry courtyard, designed all on strucutre will feature public art and provide a high end entrance to the facility. The two rooftop courtyards will feature a swimming pool, resident gathering spaces, and contribute to the sites green open space.
Jefferson at Marketplace
Washington, DC
WMC participated in the design for development of Jefferson at Marketplace, a proposed mixed-use development consisting of a 9-story apartment building with 2 levels of underground parking. The site measuring 1 acre fronts 7th Street, NW to the south, is bounded by P Street, NW to the west, and Q Street, NW to the east, in the District of Columbia.
Landscape architecture services includes developing an overall site plan for the development incorporating the 7th Street/Georgia Ave Great Streets Initiative into the site and merging it with the proposed design. Two first floor on strucuture courtyards were designed to provide amenity spaces for the residents. These spaces include gathering spaces, a bocci court and a comtimplative garden space. WMC also designed The development also designed a 7th floor roof terrace featuring an exterior bar, grilling station, fire pit and tv viewing area. This terrace will be the feature area for residents offering great views along 7th Street and providing prime ammenity space. Lastly WMC designed a roof top pool deck area, offering a pool facilities and sunning space on the 9th floor.
601 Massachusetts Avenue, NW
Washington, DC
601 Massachusetts Avenue is a newly designed 450,000 sq ft building with one below grade floor that will primarily contain office space and incorporate retail space. The new facility will be located on a triangular site previously occupied by the National Public Radio headquarters which will be demolished.
The landscape architecture scope of services for this project includes streetscape design, coordination with the DC agencies for appropriate approvals, and an extensive green roof. Great coordination is occurring with the architects to ensure that the main entry of the new development will work in concert with the interior space resulting in public and private spaces combining to create a grand entrance bisected by a glass wall.
BET Headquarters
Washington, DC
WMC is providing civil engineering, landscape architecture, and construction administration services in conjunction with the renovation to the BET headquarters facility located in Washington, DC. The renovation involves the design of the exterior spaces to provide an appropriate entry sequence to the corporate headquarters.
Landscape architecture services includes designing an entry sequence featuring undulating serpentine walls with integrated lighting. These walls highlight the new entry vestibule that guest will reach via a specialty paving area that also serves as a BET walk of fame. Integrated wooden benches, and complimentary plantings will be provided accenting and enhancing the variations in the wall. A rear patio space was also designed as part of the project to allow overflow space for an interior conference room, as well as provide a visual barrier to the surrounding industrial uses in this area of the city.
Barry Farms Recreational Center
Washington, DC
In result of a citywide initiative to renovate and construct recreation centers and public parks District of Columbia’s Department of Parks and Recreation is adapting the former Birney Elementary School to house an improved 8,000 sq ft Barry Farm Recreation Center.
Landscape architecture services involves the design for an updated streetscape with specialty entry paving as well as roof plans. The roof will consist of an extensive greenroof, designed to absorb the stormwater runoff from the roof surface. The roof will also feature a patio space that will be utilized for events and social gatherings. The LEED rated building will also feature an irrigation system that utilizes captured condensate water to irrigate the greenroof, allowing it to grow and thrive throughout the year.
St. Albans School
Washington, DC
WMC provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, and survey services for new educational and recreational facilities at St. Albans School located on Massachusetts Avenue, NW and within the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
Landscape features include the design of a large entry plaza, stone retaining walls, outdoor state of the art tennis facilities, multi-use athletic fields, and stadium seating. The landscape features were designed to extend the look and feel of the Olmstead Woods into the finished developed site.
Washington Tennis & Education Foundation
Washington, DC
In effort to accommodate children in underserved neighborhoods of Washington DC, Washington Tennis & Education Foundation has decided to build a tennis facility that is located in Southeast Washington DC that will also enable their students to play year around in an indoor facility.
WMC is providing landscape architecture and civil engineering services for this project. Scope of services for this project includes, site layout, grading, terracing, as well as pedestrian and vehicular flow. Careful layout of the pedestrian paths is an important factor for this project in order to allow accessible access to all parts of the facility on this site consisting of great elevation change. An entry plaza was designed for use as a drop off and gathering zone that can support emergency vehicle access when required. The integration of bio-retention planting is also being implemented to reduce the amount of stormwater leaving the site.
50 Florida Avenue, NE

50 Florida Avenue is a mixed used commercial residential development in Washington DC. This will be the first new development of its kind in this NE neighborhood. It will bring new residence and service industries providing new life and energy to the area.
Wiles Mensch Landscape Architecture has provided landscape architectural services through the Planned Unit Development Project, providing conceptual design for the streetscape and rooftop courtyards and greenroof.
The Vue
Washington, DC
The Vue is a highly anticipated mixed-use residential project located on Georgia Avenue in Washington, DC. The development will be a major step in helping to revitalize the Georgia Avenue corridor which has been a major focus of the DC Office of Planning for many years.
WMC is providing landscape architecture, civil engineering, and surveying services for this mixed-use project located along Georgia Avenue. Scope of services includes site design, utility design, stormwater management, EISF coordination, streetscape design, green roof design, and a roof terrace. Green design elements will also be incorporated into the design of this mixed-use development.
The green roof will feature a patio space for residents and a bermed landscape allowing the planting of trees and a pedestrian scaled environment.
The George Washington University – Square 75
Washington, DC
WMC is providing surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services for a newly constructed office building located at 2100 Pennsylvania Ave, NW. The project will upgrade the streetscape all around the site to meet the GWU standards and making it consistent with other areas along the Avenue.
WMC’s Landscape Architecture Studio provided the design for an updated streetscape with specialty entry paving as well as roof plans. The roof will consist of an extensive greenroof with raised planters and a variety of native grasses and other plants. The roof will also feature a patio space that will be utilized for events and social gatherings. A trellis attached to the building and the use of landscape mounds and vegetated screens will allow the space to function for multiple events and function types.
900 G Street, NW
Washington, DC
WMC is providing surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services for a newly constructed office building located on 9th and G Streets, NW.
Full landscape architecture services for this project includes the design of synthetic turf playing fields, retaining walls, pedestrian routes and planting design. In depth design focus took place for the new playground facility designed on top of the roof structure, and the exterior courtyard. The exterior courtyard will serve as an area for community events and as an extension for center activities. The space includes seatwalls, stormwater conveyance channels and a mounded landscape.
