WMC is providing an extensive range of surveying and civil engineering services in support of the design of the turf and soil to improve the conditions at the National Mall.

The scope of the WMC surveys included all GPS, ground control, topographic, utility, and subsurface utility designation services to identify all existing conditions across the entire length of the Mall. The site design services include identification and analysis of the turf problems, and production of final Construction Documents for all site civil areas including all grading, subsoil drainage, utility infrastructure, and development of 1MG subsurface cisterns & pumps to provide runoff storage and supplemental water for the new irrigation system. In addition to survey and civil engineering services, WMC also provides supplemental services that include groundwater boring and monitoring; and several tests that includes quarterly grab sample; well flow, water permeability, soil compression, and hydrant flow testing.

By act of Congress, the United States Institute of Peace new headquarters will be located on a 2.5-acre site at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 23rd Street in the District of Columbia.  This is the last site on the National Mall available for construction and faces the Lincoln Memorial, and is adjacent to the Korean War and Vietnam Veterans memorials.  WMC is providing civil engineering and survey services to include boundary, topographic spot elevations, and utility locations.

 

 

IRS Modernization

The renovation to modernize the Internal Revenue Service building key goal was to maintain its historical elements.  It is a modernization of the first of the large federal office buildings to be constructed in the Federal Triangle in 1928.  WMC provided civil engineering and surveying services to include site and boundary surveys, and the design of a new perimeter drainage system.  WMC staff integrated functional requirements into a unique design that ensured preservation of historic elements of the building.

As the headquarters site for the U.S. Department of Transportation, the David Nassif Building was a commanding presence for almost 40 years along 7th & D Streets, SW.  Dramatically reinvented as Constitution Center, a completely renovated property.  WMC provided a full scope of civil engineering design services.  Specific tasks included design for sanitary and storm connections, grading, and new fire service connection.  Additionally, WMC assisted the client and design team in preparing exhibits for WMATA’s right of way and in coordinating with PEPCO in regards to existing ductbank to be re-located.

This project involved the addition of a new 70,000 sq ft visitors center plus redevelopment of the sitework around the Bureau's main building and Annex building. Total site area redeveloped under this project is approximately 2.5 acres of highly urban and pedestrian accessible space. WMC was responsible for site development infrastructure included utilities and utility planning, stormwater management, grading, paving, coordination and design of all landscape utility elements, and provision of all digital base maps.

WMC provided civil engineering services and assisted with expediting the permit process by coordinating meetings with the relevant permit board authorities in the District of Columbia, including DC Water and Sewer Authorities.


Station Place Buildings I & II

The Station Place project is the largest private office building development in Washington, DC and comprises of three buildings in three phases located on a site to the south of Union Station. Buildings 1 and 2 house the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission with 750,000 sq ft of office building and 180,000 sq ft of below grade parking.

WMC provided civil engineering services and assisted with expediting the permit process by coordinating meetings with the relevant permit board authorities in the District of Columbia, including DC Water and Sewer Authorities.

WMC provided civil engineering services in conjunction with the phased modernization of the Department of Interior located at 18th & C Streets, NW, in the District of Columbia. The main goal of the project was to provide sediment and erosion control and sanitary sewer design as well as obtain approval from District Department of Environment and DC Water.


Specific scope of services included preparation of final Sedimentation and Erosion Control Plans, preparation of detail sheets for site civil elements limited to sedimentation & erosion control methods, and provided documentation for any sediment control specifications.

WMC is providing civil engineering and survey services for this project located in a historically sensitive area of Northwest Washington, DC.  This project involves the design of perimeter security as part of the Judiciary Square Master Plan. The area of design is between 4th and 5th Streets, NW and from F Street, NW past E Street, NW and wraps around the southeast corner of the DC Superior Court building on 3rd Street, NW and along the west side of the US Court of Appeals Armed Forces building.

WMC provided civil engineering and landscape services to replace White House infrastructure systems located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in Washington DC, for the National Capital Region, National Park Service. The White House grounds being part of the President’s Park, are maintained by the National Park Service. They comprise 816,750 sq ft in size bounded to the North by Pennsylvania Avenue, to the South by E Street, East Avenue to the East, and West Avenue to the West. Work involved replacement of underground utility systems that currently service the White House grounds.

WMC provided complete survey and design services for two major projects at the Washington Monument: the Physical Security project and the Visitor’s Center. WMC completed a topographic and utility survey of the surface improvements to provide additional physical security, and repairs to the Washington Monument.  Work encompassed 64 acres and extended from 15th to 17th Streets, and from Constitution to Independence Avenues.

The Library of Congress and the Architect of the Capitol jointly coordinatedthe development of the NAVCC. Located on 40-acres of land at the old Federal Reserve in Culpeper, Virginia, the building is mostly an underground archival facility and preserves the Nation's collection of both audio and video media.

WMC provided consulting services to include the site planning and layout preparation of the final site plan plus construction documents for submission to the local and state jurisdictions. WMC's scope also included utility design and planning for various conduit systems throughout the project site, which were integrated into a corridor system to meet both present and future user requirements.

This project was designed to accomadate for the great need of space for Census Bureau employees during their high season. The project was developed in 2 phases and totaled 1.5 M gsf of space. Phase I consisted of 771,000 gsf of office building and parking garage space. Phase II consisted of 730,000 gsf of office building and parking garage space.

WMC provided master plan services, including preparation of the site, utility, and grading plans. Coordination with County and Federal Government review agencies, such as Maryland-National Capitol Park & Planning Commission review, Maryland Department of the Environment, and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, was necessary to obtain the required permitting and approvals for this plan.

Beltsville, MD

The National Laboratory Center replaced a smaller ATF complex in Rockville, Maryland. The center includes three high-tech research and investigative laboratories, a forensic science lab for investigating explosions and examining firearms; an alcohol and tobacco lab; and a fire research lab where investigators are able to re-create fire scenes as big as a two-story townhouse.

The site work elements of this project included development of a commercial entry from Ammendale Road with security entrance features, the passenger vehicle parking lot, a laboratory building with entry drive, a fire center, a water storage and treatment facility and the associated civil utilities such as storm, sanitary and water services. Although coordination and design assistance of defensible barriers around the perimeter was included under this scope, the extent of the public improvements was limited to a single entrance off of Ammendale Road.
