The George Washington University - Science and Engineering Complex (Square 55)

The George Washington University’s Science and Engineering Complex is set to be a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and laboratory building. The building will include functions from the School of Engineering and Applied Science as well as the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences’ physical science departments, including biological sciences, physics, chemistry, and hominid paleobiology. Other aligned researchers will also be located in the new complex.
WMC is providing civil engineering services for this 480,000 sq ft eight-story building with two levels of below-grade parking. The building will consist of 290,000 sq ft of learning space for teaching and research laboratories.
In addition, WMC previously provided surveying services, benchmarking and programming in preparation of this new science and engineering building.
Washington Tennis & Education Foundation
Washington, DC
In effort to accommodate children in underserved neighborhoods of Washington DC, Washington Tennis & Education Foundation has decided to build a tennis facility that is located in Southeast Washington DC that will also enable their students to play year around by providing an indoor facility.
The design team is tasked to design an indoor tennis structure and academic facility and provide exterior renovations of the outdoor court. WMC was personally tasked to provide landscape architecture and civil engineering services.
The new facility will be located on a seven acre site in Ward 7 near a number of schools that currently participate in the afterschool program. The site will contain six indoor hard courts and nine outdoor courts, 1,500 sq ft community room, five classrooms, weight/exercise room with locker rooms, and staff space.
HD Woodson High School
Washington, DC
HD Woodson High School, located in the 7th Ward, Washington DC, has been razed in order to build a new high school. The new proposed high school building features a three-story classroom wing with a single story high bay for a gymnasium, auditorium, indoor swimming pool and new parking areas. WMC provided civil engineering and surveying services for this project, including stormwater management design, landscape design, revised grading and utility design.
Cardozo Senior High School
Washington, DC
WMC is part of the design team for the complete modernization and addition to Cardozo Senior High School including an addition to the natatorium. The modernization and addition will incorporate the Gothic architectural style of the structure that was originally built in 1916.
WMC will provide full civil engineering and surveying services for this project. Site design services will include placement of the addition on the site while incorporating the topography that is steep and occupied by the existing building and stadium. The addition will need to be architecturally complementary and compatible with the historic architecture of the existing building.
The addition is being designed to meet LEED Silver certification requirements.
American University – Washington College of Law
Washington, DC
Due to increasing student enrollment, American University has commissioned the redevelopment of their Washington College of Law. The newly constructed facility will be approximately 300,000 gross sq ft to include an underground parking garage for 400-500 spaces. The facility will include classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, moot court, experimental court, ceremonial court rooms, multi-purpose room for Continuing Legal Education (CLE), law library, law clinics, full commercial and catering kitchen, dining room, several lounges, student journals and briefs offices, media control center, and outdoor spaces as well as faculty, staff and student organization offices. In addition, the building is being to designed to obtain LEED Gold certification.
WMC is currently providing civil engineering services for this project.
American University – East Campus
Washington, DC
WMC is providing civil / site engineering services for this 8 acre site that is currently being utilized as a 900 space parking lot. This 8 acre site will contain American University’s new East Campus. The development will include six buildings and plazas with underground parking for approximately 500 spaces.
WMC is currently providing civil engineering services for this project.
St. Alban's School
Washington, DC
WMC provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, and survey services for new educational and recreational facilities at St. Albans School located on Massachusetts Avenue, NW and within the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. The proposed facilities included a new performing arts center, a new academic commons building, new athletic facilities, and enhanced landscape features.
Gonzaga College High School
Washington, DC
WMC has been involved with the Gozaga College High School campus located on Nineteen Eye Street, NW in the District of Columbia for over 15 years. WMC provided civil engineering services from 1994 through 2001 to this 80,000 sq ft phased renovation and expansion of the school's main classroom buildings which involved the removal and replacement of the facades, a newly constructed plaza, and approximately 17,000 sq ft of new additions with build-out.
Catholic University of America – Marist Hall
Washington, DC
WMC provided civil engineering and surveying service for the renovation of Marist Hall on Catholic University of America’s campus. Marist Hall houses the School of Library & Information Science. Scope of services included site design, erosion and sediment control, and permit coordination.
George Washington University- Potomac House (Square 103)
Washington, DC
WMC provided civil engineering and survey services for the development of Square 103 in the District of Columbia, for George Washington University. The project involved the design and construction of a 10-story building with one below grade level for student housing. The site is bounded by F Street on the front, the Francis Scott Key Hall to the east, and abuts the supporting building to the west.
Montgomery College - King Street & Cafritz Foundation Art Center
Montgomery County, MD
WMC participated in the Design/Build process for a new five-level parking garage facility for 1200 parking spaces for the George Mason University Fairfax campus, located off Patriot Circle on the eastern side of the campus and close to the existing Aquatic Center building. The garage and a small retail and management office building have been planned within the area of an existing surface parking lot, and placed between two existing academic buildings, a future research facility, and an existing perennial stream and wooded buffer. WMC provided complete civil engineering and landscape design services.
